Built-in wardrobes
A blank canvas – just a wall and a brief:
- Create as much clothes storage as possible, with at least 6 drawers and some shelving
- Make use of the space nearest the window, but don’t block any daylight
- Come up with a solution that includes a laundry hamper.
The blank canvas, newly plastered and with a new platform to tie the different pieces together.
Wardrobes in place, these are meter wide IKEA PAX pieces.
Custom box for chest of drawers in place, this is 18mm plywood with pocket holes and heavy-duty soft close full extension runners.
Custom drawers in place. The lower one is intended as a laundry basket, hence the size. The drawers made from 12mm plywood to ensure they’re not too heavy.
Cladding in place, ready for a first layer of primer.
Challenges along the way
This space had floors that didn’t match the rest of the room. The new wardrobes would sit on top, but since the old floor was in quite bad shape it was agreed it should be replaced.
